List of 100 dreams – 3 years later

by Chelsea Myers on August 23, 2016

Was thinking about this the other day and realized I had only a vague recollection of what was on it.  Might be a fun thing to revisit each year.  Originals in plain type; comments in bold.

Personal life/Family:

  1. Have 2 (3?) children.  Guide them as they grow up to be happy, healthy, productive members of society.  I’d like to think we’re on our way.
  2. Have non-rodent non-reptile pets.  So far so good, but as of now we don’t have any pets.
  3. Put down roots in a community.  Yes!
  4. Have my children participate in/ be interested in at least one physical activity and one musical/artistic activity.  I’d say yes to this also.  Both boys love Kindermusik and swimming right now.
  5. Be influential (in a good way) in the life of a child not in our family.  Not yet.
  6. Live close enough to family to have Sunday dinners together.  Yes.
  7. Establish holiday traditions.  Not yet.
  8. Make a giant mess baking Christmas cookies with my kids.  Probably this year.
  9. Spend a cold or rainy afternoon playing board and card games with my kids.  More like elemetary school age.
  10. Read a story together and have both of us become so engaged we stay up late to finish the book  More like elemetary school age.
  11. Send my kids to the best schools I can.  Yes!
  12. Raise my kids in the church so they adopt the faith as their own as they grow up.  I think we’ve found a church we want to be part of long-term.
  13. Allow my kids to finish college debt-free.  Working on it.
  14. Introduce my kids to the arts – take them to plays, the ballet, the symphony, etc.  They won’t enjoy them all, but at least give them the exposure.  For now we go to the little kid versions, Kindermusik and story time.
  15. Host Christmas at my house.  Maybe this year.
  16. Join a swim club and take my kids swimming on hot days during the summer.  Yes.  We go all the time.
  17. Host more dinner parties.  The kids are not at dinner party age yet (if they ever will be).
  18. Instill in my kids a love of reading.  No effort on my part necessary!
  19. Take my kids tubing in a cold spring on a hot day.  When they get older.
  20. Go to the beach in the late afternoon and play in the water and sand but have no one get too hot or sunburned.  We went to the beach one morning last fall but next time I think we’ll do the stay the night thing.  No one likes to be sandy in the car.
  21. Take my kids to see baby animals on a farm.  Yes!
  22. Keep decent baby books for my kids.  Yes (but thanks to a gifted acquaintance who made them for me!)
  23. Make a cool photo wall with pictures of family, friends and places we’ve lived/traveled.  Yep, in our hall.
