Running:

I finished the last race in my spring race series at the end of May.  It’s one of the slower 5ks I’ve run recently – just over 24 minutes – but it seemed to be a slow race for everyone (it was humid and part of the course was on muddy ground) – and I placed 2nd in my age group and won a red bud tree (it was an Arbor Day race).  I don’t have many races planned for the rest of the year – two 5ks, one on July 4 and one on Thanksgiving and a 1/2 marathon in December – so my main goals are just to keep up my motivation running during the summer and PR in both events.  I’d love to run under 1:45 in the 1/2 marathon in December and under 22:30 in the 5k at Thanksgiving.  To that end, I’m planning to join a running group that will start in June.  They have both mid-week speed workouts and a weekend long run, but the mid-week runs are sooooo early (you have to be there at 4:45am) that I’m thinking I may just do the long runs with the group, which are actually very convenient to our house.  No concrete plans to do another marathon.  Maybe Celebration or Jacksonville next January?  It’s hard for me to get excited about doing super long marathon training runs again, but hopefully having a group to run with will help.  Plus I’d love to finally break 4 hours in the marathon.
