Noteworthy:

  • I ran the Celebration Marathon yesterday and finally met my goal of running a sub-4-hour marathon, finishing in 3:57:11.  Everything about this race went just right.  The weather was cool and rainy, but it didn’t pour on us while we waited for the race to begin.  I started with the 3:55 pace group and stayed right with them all the way up until mile 24 when I slowed down a little bit.  At that point, I knew for sure I was going to run sub-4 and decided to not to push myself but to just keep going all the way to the end.  I didn’t have to stop and walk the entire way and, even though it wasn’t easy, I didn’t have any trouble staying on pace all the way up until mile 24.  It was awesome to be the one passing people at the end rather than the other way around!  I’m super sore today, but am otherwise feeling really good about everything.  Daniel asked if I was planning to run any more marathons since I’d met my sub-4 goal (and I would have to take off a huge chunk of time to actually BQ), and I said I thought I would.  I think I will tentatively say I’d like to do Space Coast at Thanksgiving time this year.

  • The other big thing for Scott is that he’s started violin lessons this month(!).  His teacher is really great and right now the lessons are all about him learning to make sounds with it like to “pop” the strings for “Pop Goes the Weasel” and play rhythms with a nice tone, which, amazingly, he can do.  He takes one regular and one group lesson a week (the group lesson is right after his regular lesson and he’s already “performed” by holding his violin in rest position and bowing for the group) and practices for about 5 minutes each evening.
  • We are also crossing our fingers that Scott’s best friend from school’s family decides to move to our neighborhood this spring!

Will:

  • Taking some calls:
  • Will has started developing his own social life.  He was invited to his first birthday part for a classmate on Saturday and has his own best friend in class.  Will is usually kind of shy about other kids, but if you ask him if Giles is his friend at school, he gets a big smile on his face and says “yes”.  Will, in general, does not like to be touched by other kids, but seemed happy to let Giles give him a big hug and a kiss (which Giles also did to both of their teachers – no wonder everyone is always sick!).

Working on:

  • My novel
  • Classes ongoing and to start in mid-February

This time last year:

  • We moved into our new house!
  • A cute Scott memory from last year: He’s also learning about the idea of friends and has decided that not being friends with someone is the ultimate punishment.  When he got mad at Will he told Will that Will was not his friend anymore.  I asked Scott why Will wasn’t his friend anymore and Scott said, “Because he’s a horse.”  Ouch.  2nd-degree burned.

  • Will things he’s a dinosaur:

Two years ago:

  • Tiny little Will started smiling, and Scott was just Will’s age.

  • Going back and reading some old posts from this time makes me so relieved that Will is a MUCH easier 2-year-old than Scott was!
  • Will was already starting to look like himself.

Three years ago:

  • Scott had started walking!

Four years ago:

  • We could already tell Scott was already not a morning person!
